Featured Charity of the Month: TEXSAR
Texans Helping Texans When It Matters Most
Every month, we love highlighting organizations that make a meaningful impact across our communities. This July, we're honored to feature TEXSAR (Texas Search and Rescue)—a nonprofit first responder organization made up almost entirely of highly trained volunteers who answer the call when Texans need them most.
Whether searching for a missing child, assisting after natural disasters, responding to floods, or supporting first responders during emergencies, TEXSAR's mission is simple:
Texans Helping Texans.
While we hope most of us never need their services, it's reassuring to know there are people willing to leave work, family dinners, holidays, and everyday life behind to help complete strangers.
A Mission Born From Service
Founded in 2004, TEXSAR is a Texas-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides specialized search, rescue, disaster response, and recovery services across all 254 Texas counties.
Unlike many organizations, TEXSAR only deploys when requested by law enforcement, emergency management agencies, or fire departments. They work alongside local first responders, bringing specialized resources and trained volunteers whenever they're needed most.
Perhaps most remarkable of all...
Families and agencies are never charged for TEXSAR's services.
Every deployment is made possible through donations, grants, sponsors, and volunteers who generously give their time.
More Than Search and Rescue
When most people hear "search and rescue," they picture someone hiking through the woods looking for a lost person.
The reality is much bigger.
TEXSAR's teams include experts in:
Each volunteer undergoes extensive training and continuing education to ensure they're prepared when emergencies happen.
Why TEXSAR Is Our July Featured Charity
This July feels especially meaningful.
Last summer, the devastating Hill Country floods reminded all of us just how quickly lives can change. Entire communities were impacted, families were displaced, and countless first responders and volunteers worked around the clock to help those in need.
TEXSAR was one of the organizations answering that call.
According to their flood response report, volunteers worked tirelessly alongside emergency responders during one of the most challenging disaster responses in recent Texas history. Search teams, K9 units, drone operators, communications specialists, logistics teams, and support volunteers all came together with one goal—to help their fellow Texans.
Behind every rescue mission are volunteers who stepped away from their own families because someone else's family needed them more.
That's exactly why we wanted to recognize TEXSAR this month.
What Makes TEXSAR Different?
There are a few things that truly set this organization apart.
✔️ They serve every county in Texas.
✔️ They deploy only when requested by official agencies.
✔️ Their responders are trained volunteers—not paid staff responding for a paycheck.
✔️ Their services are provided completely free to families and requesting agencies.
✔️ They continually train throughout the year so they're ready before disaster strikes.
It's a level of preparation and commitment that's easy to overlook until the moment it's needed.
How You Can Help
One of the best things about TEXSAR is that there are several ways to support their mission.
Because TEXSAR never bills the communities they serve, donations directly help fund rescue equipment, specialized vehicles, K9 programs, medical gear, communications equipment, fuel, and volunteer training.
You don't have to already be an expert to get involved.
TEXSAR welcomes volunteers from many different backgrounds—including search teams, drone pilots, communications specialists, logistics volunteers, medical professionals, K9 handlers, and administrative support.
Training is provided, and there are many ways to serve.

As Realtors, we're fortunate to help people through exciting milestones like buying and selling homes. Organizations like TEXSAR remind us that "community" is about so much more than where we live.
It's about showing up when people need help most.
It's about neighbors helping neighbors.
It's about ordinary Texans doing extraordinary things.
We're incredibly grateful for every volunteer who chooses to serve and every donor who helps make that service possible. If you'd like to support an organization that truly makes a difference across our state, we encourage you to learn more about TEXSAR and the incredible work they're doing every day.
We believe strong communities aren't built by buildings alone—they're built by people who show up for one another. TEXSAR embodies that spirit, and we're honored to shine a light on the volunteers who dedicate countless hours to keeping Texans safe. We hope you'll join us in supporting their mission.
