So, what should you know before moving to the Austin Texas area? More than the tourism brochures will tell you. Austin has been one of the most searched relocation destinations in the country for several years running, and the metro has absorbed a massive wave of out-of-state arrivals to prove it. Many of those newcomers wish they'd had a clearer picture before signing a lease or making an offer on a home. The city's reputation for live music, tacos, and outdoor culture is well-earned, but there's a lot more to understand before you pack a moving truck.
This guide covers the full picture: cost of living, traffic, neighborhoods, Texas property taxes, the pace of the real estate market, summer heat, and the local job scene. Think of it as the honest conversation a...

Where I'd Start Looking for New Construction
5 Greater Austin Communities Worth Exploring for a Brand-New Home
There's something exciting about walking into a brand-new home. Fresh finishes, modern floor plans, energy-efficient features, and the opportunity to make a space your own before anyone else has lived there.

Here's the good news: buying your first home in the Austin suburbs follows a predictable sequence. Every buyer moves through the same four phases, from getting pre-approved to picking up keys at the title compan...
One of my favorite things about living in the Greater Austin area is that you don't have to head into downtown Austin every time you want something fun to do.
Some of the communities surrounding Austin have really great downtown areas of their own—places where you can grab brunch, wander through locally owned shops, find a patio for a drink, catch live music, or make an entire Saturday out of doing a whole lot of nothing. (My favorite kind of Saturday.)
And they're all a little different.
Some are polished and bustling. Some still have that old-school Texas charm. And a few have changed so much in recent years that they're worth another visit if you haven't been in a while.
If I were picking five of my favorite downtowns around Greater Austin, these are the ones I'd put on the list.

Summer in Central Texas means sunshine, pool days... and triple-digit temperatures. While we all love spending time outdoors, sometimes the best way to enjoy summer is in the comfort of air conditioning.
Whether you're entertaining the kids, planning a date day, or just looking for something fun to do when it's too hot outside, here are some of our favorite indoor activities around Austin, Round Rock, Cedar Park, Georgetown, Leander, Pflugerville, and beyond.
