Welcome to the vibrant city of Georgetown, Texas, where every spring, the streets burst into a riot of color and festivity with the annual Red Poppy Festival. This beloved event, steeped in local history and charm, celebrates the beauty of the iconic red poppy flower while bringing together residents and visitors alike for a weekend of fun, music, and community spirit. This year is the 25th annual Red Poppy Festival so the city of Georgetown is gearing up for three days full of red poppy fun!

The Origin Story

During World War I, seeds from poppies in Europe found their way to Georgetown, Texas, thanks to Henry Purl Compton, affectionately known as "Okra," a member of the American Expeditionary Forces. He sent them to his mother, who planted them at her home on 507 East 7th Street. From there, the poppies spread naturally...
