Windows

When cleaning your home, make sure to include your windows in your cleaning efforts. Our real estate agents know that clean windows make a big difference in the amount of natural light that can enter your home, helping any room look bright and roomy. Here are a few tips to help you keep your windows clean.

  1. Vacuum Around Your Windows
Window sills are a magnet for dust, hair, and dirt. Keep them clean and prevent these things from migrating to your windows by vacuuming your windows during your cleaning routine.
  1. Clean on an Overcast Day
A cloudy, overcast day is an excellent time to clean your windows. When cleaning on a sunny day, you run the risk of the sun drying your cleaning solution before you're done, leading to unsightly streaks. However, a rainy day has the potential to splash rainwater on your windows while you're cleaning, combating your efforts.
  1. Invest in a Window Squeegee
A window squeegee is a game-changer when washing your windows. Look for one that includes a scrubber. Use the scrubber to wet your windows with your cleaning solution and remove any stuck-on grime. Then, use the squeegee side to remove the remaining solution from the window. Start at the top of the window and squeegee to the bottom. Resume your squeegeeing at the top of the window, slightly overlapping your last path.  When you're done, use a lint-free cloth to remove any remaining water at the bottom of your windows and around the corners and sides.
  1. Rethink Your Glass Cleaner
While commercial glass cleaner products will clean your windows, they aren't necessary. Instead, you can make your own glass cleaner by combining a few drops of dish soap with warm water. This homemade cleaner is a cheap, easy option for helping your windows look their best.
  1. Make Sure to Clean Your Window Screens
Dirty window screens will minimize your home's natural light and prevent your windows from looking shiny and clean. You should also clean your screens before adding your home to the list of Cedar Park homes for sale. Remove your window screens and wash them with water and a few drops of dish detergent using a soft cloth or sponge. If your screens have a lot of buildup, you can use a degreasing cleaner to remove stubborn grime. Rinse the screens with clean water and allow them to dry before reinserting them.
  1. Wash Your Drapes or Blinds
Your drapes and blinds are another source of dirt and dust that can migrate to your newly cleaned windows. Begin by vacuuming your window coverings to get rid of lint, hair, and dust. If they're in need of a thorough cleaning, launder your draperies according to the care instructions. Or, if you have blinds, combine a little degreaser with warm water and clean them using this solution and a microfiber cloth.
  1. Make Window Cleaning a Regular Part of Your Cleaning Schedule
Cleaning your windows is much less daunting when it's part of your normal cleaning regimen. You'll want to clean your windows at least twice a year and spot clean in between cleanings. If you live somewhere with a lot of pollen or dust, consider cleaning your windows every four months.

Follow these simple tips to ensure your windows are gleaming and dust-free after your cleaning session. Interested in selling your home? Contact us to get started!
