Leftover Paint

It's always better to have more paint than you need when embarking on an interior painting project, but what do you do with the leftover paint once you're finished? Interior paint is made to resist wear, so you can actually use that paint for other projects, too. Try repurposing your leftover paint to do one of these smaller-scale paint projects our real estate agents recommend.

  • Refinish Wood Furniture
Painting your wood furniture is a great way to refresh the damaged finish or give furniture that doesn't go with your decor a new look. Since interior paint is designed to repel dirt and resist wear, it's a great choice for refinishing furniture. For a trendy distressed look, plan on sanding edges and surfaces after you paint it to give the appearance of wear and tear.

  • Give Your Furniture Splashes of Color
If you don't want to paint an entire piece of furniture, consider just painting certain parts. You can use the paint to tie a piece of furniture into your decor, or if the paint is a vibrant color, use it to create unexpected pops of color in a room. For instance, you can paint just the top of a side table to disguise a rough finish and create an eye-catching burst of color. The sides of drawers can also be painted so that you just see the paint when you open the drawer. Painting the backs of bookshelves provides an eye-catching contrast and a backdrop for whatever is on the shelf.

  • Paint Your Hardwood Floor
Yes, you can even paint the floor! Painting hardwood flooring looks best when you're adding eye-catching patterns or colors. For instance, you can paint trim on the floor to tie it to your walls and decor. You can also paint a pattern throughout and even change it up every few years if you want.

  • Give Your Lighting Fixtures or Lamps a New Look
Changing out lighting fixtures is a great way to update the look of your home, especially before you sell it, but if you don't have the money, consider repainting them instead. Paint can quickly update the appearance of a dated lighting fixture, even lightening and brightening a room. Top it off with a brighter bulb since Georgetown homes for sale tend to sell better when they're well-lit. Have table and floor lamps that don't match your decor? You can paint these too! Even lamp shades can be spray painted if you don't have the money for new ones. Add several light coats for full coverage, as any missed areas will show when you turn on the light.

  • Update Your Kitchen Backsplash
If you have a dated kitchen backsplash or have grown tired of the current look, you can paint the backsplash. This is especially effective if your leftover paint is a fun color. Your backsplash is a small area, so don't be afraid to get creative! You can use masking tape to create patterns, or if you're artsy with a brush, paint designs on the backsplash.

Paint is a cheap, easy, and effective way to update your home, so don't toss that leftover paint! It's good for more than just keeping around in case you need a touch-up. Getting your home ready to sell? Contact us for more tips on how a simple coat of paint can make a difference.
