Hey there, friends! ? It's that time of the year again – National Organize Your Home Day! Now that we've finally come out of the hustle and bustle of the holidays, it's the perfect time to go through your home and get everything organized. If that task seems daunting, fear not, my fellow clutter combatants, because I've got some tips to help you get your home looking ready for the new year ahead!
Let's start with the Wild West of most homes – the closet. First things first, if you haven't worn it in a year, it's time to say adios. Donate those gently used items to give them a new lease on life. Even better? If you have gently used, women's professional wear, our featured charity of January 2024 is Dress for Success - Austin. Your donations could make a huge impact on someone's professional future.
The kitchen is where the magic happens, so let's make it magical. Clear those counters like you're prepping for a cooking show. Group similar items together – all your spices should be having a party in one spot. And those Tupperware lids? Let's find them a home; a lid-less Tupperware need to be repurposed or recycled.
Your living room should be as inviting as a warm Texas hug. Keep those remote controls in a cute basket – because playing hide and seek with them isn't fun. And books on the coffee table? Arrange them by size or color for that 'I totally have my life together' look. Add a fun basket or small table with hidden compartment for extra blanket storage. Have littles whose toys seem to always migrate into the living area? Try a cube storage shelf so you can store away the toys out of sight in some fun cubes/baskets that match your decor.
For my fellow work-from-homers, let's wrangle those cords and gadgets. Use binder clips to keep cords in line – it's like a tiny lasso for your cables! And remember, a clear desk means a clear mind. So, let's keep it neat, y'all.
The garage isn't just for your car; it's a storage haven. Invest in some shelves or storage bins. And for the love of all things organized, label those bins! It's like giving your stuff a GPS so you can find it later. You can even add hooks or hangers to get some of your cords, hand tools or gardening stuff off of the ground.
Your bathroom should be as serene as a spa. Those half-empty shampoo bottles? Consolidate or toss them. And get a caddy for your shower essentials – it's like a VIP section for your bath products. Add some cute baskets in your linen closet to wrangle those items that might need a home. Have a separate room for your toilet? Add a small basket or caddy to the top of your commode to hold extra rolls of toilet paper, room freshners, etc.
Wrapping It Up
Remember, folks, organizing your home doesn't have to be as daunting as Austin traffic on I-35. Take it one room at a time, put on some good tunes, and maybe even reward yourself with some good ol' Texas BBQ afterward. Happy Organizing, y'all!
